Gorr the God Butcher – Marvel Comics universe

Gorr is a fictional character appearing in the Marvel Comics universe. The character was created by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic, first appearing in Thor: God of Thunder #1 (November 2012). He served as the main villain for the first 11 issues of Thor: God of Thunder.

Gorr was once an ordinary alien who lived on a planet called Gorracon-6, where he was married to a woman named Salla. They had two children named Marcus and Isak. When their planet was attacked by an alien race known as the Fyndians, Salla and their children were killed by the invaders.

Gorr was exiled from his people after denying any gods exists because he believed that if gods do exist but fail to respond to the prayers of their worshipers then they don’t deserve to live. After wandering his planet’s wastelands for years, Gorr encountered two powerful gods fighting each other in battle. Their battle caused a massive explosion which destroyed all life on Gorracon-6 except for him.

Gorr also has an interesting relationship with his sword All-Black the Necrosword, which grants him immense power at the expense of his sanity. It’s a fascinating dynamic between two characters who have very different views on life and death, but one that works well within the context of the story.
